Event Overview

In honor of International Waste Pickers Day, the Nairobi Recyclable Waste Association hosted the Waste Pickers Assembly 2025 — a pivotal event recognizing the contributions of waste pickers in advancing sustainable waste management and promoting a circular economy in Kenya.

This assembly brought together industry experts, government officials, civil society, and community champions to celebrate the often-overlooked heroes of environmental conservation — waste pickers.

Activities Included:

  • Panel Discussions with experts and public sector leaders
  • Breakout Sessions on:
    • Legal rights of waste pickers
    • Health & safety in waste handling
    • Waste-to-value entrepreneurship
  • Awards to outstanding waste pickers for their service
  • Community Exhibitions showcasing grassroots innovation
  • Launch of the Waste Pickers Charter
